Sunday in the Park with George is a Pulitzer Prize-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine that explores the complex relationship between an artist and their creation. The story begins in 1880s Paris with Georges Seurat, a painter obsessed with capturing light through pointillism at the expense of his relationship with his mistress, Dot; it then leaps forward a century to follow his great-grandson, a modern artist struggling to find his own voice amidst the commercial pressures of the art world. Ultimately, the show serves as a poignant meditation on the sacrifices required to "finish the hat," the enduring legacy of art across generations, and the necessity of looking back to find the inspiration to move on.
